Los Angeles’ second CicLAvia will be Sunday April 10th 2011 from 10am-3pm. It’s FREE, fun, family-friendly!
CicLAvia temporarily removes cars from L.A. streets and makes the streets safe for people to walk, skate, play and ride a bike. There are activities along the route as shop owners and restaurants are encouraged to open their doors to people along the CicLAvia. It's family and grown up friendly with plenty of sporty, arts and crafty and foodie activities.
CicLAvia is NOT a race. You can start wherever you want, do as much or as little as you’d like. Participants definitely get some exercise, but, between plenty of newer and slower riders (the cutest part about CicLAvia is that a lot of them are under 10 years old!) and crossing points, it’s just not the right place for sprints. It’s a place to cruise and enjoy.
In Los Angeles we need CicLAvia more than ever. Our streets are congested with traffic, our air is polluted with toxic fumes, our children suffer from obesity and other health conditions caused by the scarcity of public space and safe, healthy transportation options. CicLAvia creates a temporary park for free, simply by removing cars from city streets. It creates a network of connections between our neighborhoods and businesses and parks with corridors filled with fun.
