It was another beautiful morning on my bike route. I saw several Pelicans and a Great Blue Heron standing on a buoy in Alamitos Bay. One rather clunky and the other full of grace, those tall birds never cease to amaze me with their huge wing spans. The sky and ocean were very blue.colorful spandex outfits bike riders wear and she asked if I had one--maybe someday, when I pay my dues. Yet another woman advised that it’s not safe, that I should stay off the streets, stick to the bike path, don’t ride at night and what if it rains. But I bought head and tail lights and a rear view mirror for by helmet. I wear my I-phone in my brassiere with an ear bud in my left ear only, so I can hear outside sounds in my right ear for safety. At the push of a button I can call my husband to the rescue if necessary.
Why are people able to commute on their bikes in New York City and Copenhagen and not in LA? Further to the comments of my new friend from NYC mentioned in yesterday's offering, I share a portion of the blog of another New York City bicycle commuter. She said she rides everyday to work. She wears a slicker when it rains and she rides even when it snows, unless there is more than ½ inch.
I’m trying to create a multimodal movement here in LA! Do you see what I am up against? Oh well. I know my colleagues are all jealous. I will recruit them one at a time.
