Executive Bike Commute Saga: Chapter 17 Reinventing My Bike Commute
Greetings New and Aspiring Cyclists
The Executive Bike Commute Saga has been the story of my adventures as a born again bicycle commuter. I intend to transition more to street bike routes from the ocean bike path in the coming months. However, there are new and even more exciting biking adventures to be experienced in the days ahead. Take a look at this Sunset article.
I am more than inspired--I am going to do it! For Heaven's sake, we own 15 water bikes (lbhydrobikes.com). Nat Hong the Bremerton, Washington commuter in the article has shortened his 75 mile commute around the Olympic Peninsula to 5 miles by crossing Puget Sound on his HydroBike. Commuting on the water in the Long Beach Outer Harbor, I will lengthen my 5 1/2 mile bike commute time-wise--but oh what a workout it will be! I will leave my home on Naples Canal at 4:00 a.m., peddle past the Belmont Pier at around 5:30 and hit Rainbow Harbor and Shoreline Village at about 7:00. From there it is a short walk to the Bikestation at its new location where I will shower, change into banker chic, jump onto the Metro and complete the second leg of my multimodal commute. Who knows... maybe I will borrow an idea from Mr. Hong and troll for halibut on the way through the Harbor.
Dear cyclists, I hope our bike paths soon cross. See you out there.
