Executive Bike Commute Saga: Chapter 16 A Cyclist's View

Greetings All,

From the bike path the beach positively sparkles after the long 4th of July weekend.  And I'm not just talking about the water.  In the four days since the big beach party attended by thousands, City of Long Beach work crews have removed all the debris and put everything right.  The scene is pristine and brilliant again in the summer sun.

Participating in something of a new lifestyle as a cyclist, it is surprising to me the sights I observe that I might not otherwise have known.  For example, everyday I watch the

progress of the "Ocean Boulevard Bluff Erosion and Enhancement Project."  While this project reportedly began in January it only became apparent to me a couple of weeks after the beginning of my Bike Commute Saga.   What started as a modular office and a sign is now progressing at breakneck speed.   All along the bluffs on the bike path, from the Long Beach Museum of Art south to the Belmont Pier, earth movers are moving soil, contractors are punching vertical support pilings into the bluffs and installing PVC pipe apparently for irrigation. 

              

 

 

 

 

The unruly growth is disappearing from around all of the previously unimproved beach access stairways on the bluff to be replaced by "native and indigenous plant material".   I believe beautiful red and purple bougainvillea are considered indigenous.  I can hardly wait to see the finished product. Attached is a photo of one very beautiful, well established floral stairway scene just north of the Long Beach Museum.  I am hoping this is how the newly landscaped stairways will turn out.  Dear cyclists, I hope our bike paths soon cross.  See you out there.
